frameology

My dad and I have always loved working on projects together..so this was another one of our projects we teamed up on.  It is our dad/daughter time I love.

Dad and I in Zurich, Switzerland | 2009

My sweet friend, Ashley Lieb (http://www.lilykatedesigns.com/), started making and selling frames similar to this last year.  They sell these at places like Three Sheets for a lot more than they cost to make them.  She inspired to build and design my own frames. Also, this way I could make them as custom as I wanted them.

After drawing out the plans for the frames, we made a big trip to Home Depot to buy everything.

Items Needed:
1X6 Wood
Wood Trim
Picture Hanging Kit
Corner Fasteners
Angled Screws (to join the frames)
Hand Saw (miter box & back saw)
Wood Glue (frame corners and trim)
Paint for base
Paint for top coat
Paint Brush
Sand Paper

With the help of my dad's handy tools, we began constructing each frame....

  1. On the second set of frames I discovered pocket screws, sold as a kit at Home Depot. A much better way to join frames. I was impressed with the way you used wax to antique/paint the frames.
    Love you too!
